June has been cool-to-warm, up until the 9th but is about to get hot with 29°C forecast tomorrow – the 10th. The pleasant conditions albeit breezy at times have made for some decent insect watching with my first local dragonfly being a Four-spotted Chaser on Dean Clough on the 7th. Butterflies have also been evident with up to three Wall Brown at Dean Clough, along with Small Heath, Common Blue, Large Skipper, Meadow Brown, Small Tortoiseshell and Green-veined White. The numbers of blue damselflies are rising too but I’ve not been patient enough to identify more than Large Red, Common Blue and Blue-tailed so far. I also grabbed a photo of a diurnal Silver Y Moth on the 9th also at Dean Clough. The garden had a Large Skipper on the 9th.
